China Railway Guangzhou Group records over 100 mln passenger trips during summer travel rush

As of August 20, China Railway Guangzhou Group has seen over 100 million passenger trips during this summer's travel rush. On average, the Group has transported 1.99 million passenger trips daily, marking a 2.3% increase year-on-year, with an average of 1,453 pairs of passenger trains operating each day, up 7.8% from the previous year.

According to the passenger transport department of the Group, a total of 6,037 additional passenger trains have been put into operation since the start of the summer travel rush, including 5,185 high-speed trains (of which 601 are nighttime services). The Group has implemented a dynamic scheduling strategy based on shifts in passenger flow and ticket sales, optimizing capacity management through measures such as increasing nighttime high-speed trains, coupling multiple train sets, and adding regular passenger trains to meet travel demand effectively.

This summer, a significant number of Hong Kong SAR residents have traveled northward to cities in the Chinese mainland. This trend has resulted in a noticeable increase in railway passenger traffic to Shenzhen, with a total of about 14.62 million passenger trips sent, including 1.18 million at Futian Railway Station, a 43.13% year-on-year increase. Daily arrivals at key stations such as Shenzhen Railway Station and Shenzhen East Railway Station have also shown substantial growth.

Changsha, a popular travel destination during the summer travel rush, has seen sustained high passenger volume at Changsha South Railway Station, which recorded 9.30 million passenger trips—an increase of 780,000 compared to 2023, representing a 9.2% rise. Notably, both Hengyang and Yueyang have experienced significant increases in passenger numbers, with Hengyang East Railway Station sending 1.28 million passenger trips (up 13.3%) and Yueyang East Railway Station reaching 1.05 million passenger trips (up 11.1%).

With the return peak of summer travel approaching, a staff member of the passenger transport department of the Group noted that the overall passenger flow is continuing to rise due to the overlap of student returns, tourism, family visits and business travel.

In order to ensure the fast and comfortable travel of passengers during the peak passenger flow, Guangzhou South Railway Station has maximized the use of manual windows and 125 self-service ticket machines, 72 real-name verification channels, and 50 security inspection channels in a timely manner.

Shenzhen North Railway Station offers comprehensive support and guidance to passengers, while Shenzhen Railway Station has established volunteer service points across key locations such as ticket halls and waiting areas to provide timely assistance and address inquiries.

Changsha South Railway Station has strengthened the organization of passenger boarding and landing during peak hours, dynamically increased the number of passages in and out of the station, and provided caring services for key passengers such as the elderly, disabled and pregnant people, to improve their travel experience.

Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station has set up a caring waiting area equipped with a children's play zone, dedicated nursing rooms, sanitation zones, and private restrooms to create a more comfortable environment for passengers as they await their departures.
