Beginning on June 14, China Eastern Airlines' C919, China's self-developed large passenger aircraft, will commence operation on the fourth commercial regular route between Shanghai and Guangzhou. On that day, flight MU5309 will take off from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 9:30 and land at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at 11:55. The return flight from Guangzhou, MU5316, is scheduled to take off at 13:30 and is expected to arrive in Shanghai at 16:00.
China Eastern Airlines is currently the only airline operating the C919s with a fleet size of six. The Shanghai-Guangzhou route is an important one for China Eastern Airlines, with a daily flight volume of 36 flights (round trip). The addition of C919 jetliner on this route will make it more convenient for passengers. More fliers can choose a homegrown large aircraft for their travel.
At present, tickets for the first day of the flight from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport are available on various ticketing platforms. An economy class ticket costs as low as 500 RMB (excluding taxes and fees, the same below), with additional special discounts for students. Tickets for both the economy and business class for the return trip from Guangzhou to Shanghai are also available, with the economy class costing at least 1,200 RMB.
