The 2nd Guangzhou International (Liuxi) Flower Expo just had its grand opening in Guangzhou's Conghua District on December 20. The expo will run until January 27 in 2023, covering two important holidays— the New Year's holiday and the Chinese Spring Festival.
A total of 140 flower companies are exhibiting more than 1,000 species of flowers, including orchid, succulent plants and potted plants.
This exhibition is an ideal place to purchase New Year flowers, as well as experience flower culture of Guangzhou during holidays. There will be a flower art show, a potted plants show, and a home flower cultivation lecture every day. Different flower exhibitors will also hold small interesting activities.
When walking into the main venue, tourists will see one of the expo's highlights: a huge pot of Lotus Lantern Flower (Chinese: 寶蓮燈花). Its scientific name is Medinilla magnifica Lindl, and is named after its pink flowers, which hang upside down from the branches and resemble traditional Chinese palace lanterns.
"Lotus Lantern Flowers are our new featured products this year," introduced Ye Ruguang, president of the Guangzhou Lübaoxuan Agricultural Ecological Technology Company. Ye explained that the flower is a new variety introduced from abroad, but through the improvement of planting technology, such as adding seaweed into fertilizer, regulating room temperature, light and other growth conditions, the Lotus Lantern Flower now is well adapted to the soil and water conditions in Guangzhou.
Ye said this year's flower fair will also supply sufficient flowers that have been popular with Guangzhou residents over the years, such as roses and begonia. People are welcomed to come, enjoy a flower sea, and purchase their favorite ones.
